How to get to Sierra Nevada?

 

Sierra Nevada is well connected to Granada by road.

 

The mountains are to the southeast of the city and the distance is approximately 31 km, so going in your own car or with a rented car in the city is the first option.

 

The duration of the trip is 30-40 minutes if there is not much traffic.

 

You can also go to Sierra Nevada by bus, it takes approximately 1 hour to arrive.

 

In high season and peak hours, which coincide with the opening and closing hours of the slopes, there may be traffic jams.

 

Another option is going by bus which leaves from the Bus Station in the North of Granada.

 

The schedule during the winter season are:

Departure from Granada from Monday to Friday at 8:00 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Holidays, Saturday and Sunday and: 8:00 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.

 

To return to Granada, the bus leaves from Pradollano: Monday to Friday: 9:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; and holidays, Saturday and Sunday: 9:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m.

 

In both cases, there is a 15-minute stop at Paseo del ViolĂłn, next to the Palacio de Congresos.

 

Outside the season, in summer, the bus only has a service in the morning that leaves the Granada Bus Station at 9:00 AM and returns in the afternoon at 5:00 PM from the Sierra Nevada University Hostel.

 

The price of the ticket is 9 euros round trip and 5 euros one way.  Tickets can be   purchased at the same Bus Station or via the web.

How high is Sierra Nevada?

 

Its maximum altitude is reached at the Mulhacen peak, at 3479 m above sea level.

 

In 1986 it was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, in 1989 a very large area of ​​this mountainous massif was declared a natural park and in 1999 a large part of it was considered a national park for its botanical values.

2. Hiking in Los Cahorros de Monachil
