25 May 4 ways to get to the Alhambra
How can I get to The Alhambra?
Welcome to Granada!
Luckily, just like the saying: “all roads lead to Rome,” here in Granada many of the roads do lead to The Alhambra!
You already have your Alhambra tickets and your private official tour guide. Now what? Let me help you figure out how to get there!
My detailed information will help you get to The Alhambra, and most importantly, you will get there ON TIME! You have to be very punctual in order to gain access to the Nasrid palaces. You don’t want to miss anything!
There are four ways to get to the Alhambra: on foot, by public transport, by car or by taxi.
Choose your way to get to The Alhambra
- On foot.
There are two ways to climb the Sabika hills:
Option 1: If you are in the city center, reach “Plaza Nueva” and climb up the “Cuesta de Gomerez”. It is a very nice walk because it crosses The Alhambra Forest. Enjoy the whispers of the water as you walk under the shade of the trees.
The route is approximately 1,2 km, about 20 minutes from Plaza Nueva to The Alhambra’s Main Entrance.

Option 2: If you are in the Albaicín district you will find another promenade, which is very attractive but somewhat steep.
Water is also the main attraction here. In this case, you can see it cascading down from the Alhambra and feel it rushing downstream. It is a very relaxing walk, but note that you will walk uphill.
To access this path:
- Go to the end of “Paseo de los Tristes”
- Cross the Darro River through the Aljibillo Bridge
- Climb the “Cuesta de los Chinos”
This route is shorter than the previous one. It is only 800 meters and it takes about 14 minutes of walking.
- Public Transport.
There are two red minibus lines, C30 and C32, that go up to The Alhambra every 15 minutes. Both lines share the same stop, next to the Plaza Isabel la Católica.
The C30 line runs a circular route and the C32 line allows you to connect with the Albaicín district.

This will come in very handy in case you want to visit the most famous lookout point in Granada, the “Mirador de San Nicolás” after your visit to The Alhambra.

The C32 minibus will take you directly to the Mirador from The Alhambra.

- By car.
I only recommend get to the Alhambra by car if you are driving from out of town.
The direction to follow will depend on whether you come from the South or the North of Granada. In both cases, you may use one of the four car parking lots near the monument’s main entrance.
The parking spaces closest to the main entrance are only available for people with reduced mobility.
From the North (Madrid, Jaén, Almería or Murcia).
− Follow the Granada beltway road (E902/A44) towards Motril.
− Take exit 132 (Ronda Sur-Alhambra) and stay in the left lane.
− If you have followed the instructions correctly, you should find yourself on the A395.
− Continue on A395 and take exit 5B (after traversing the tunnel). Follow the signs to The Alhambra.
From the South (Motril).
− Continue along the Granada beltway road (E902/A44).
− Take exit 132 (Ronda Sur-Alhambra).
− You are now on the A395. Stay in the left lane and traverse the tunnel.
− Take exit 5B and follow the signs to The Alhambra.
- By Taxi.
This option is highly recommended in all cases, especially for groups of three or more people. The rate is quite economical.
It’s a good idea to take this type of transport up the hill and then to walk your way back down.
